Bobbie Grogan
George E. Norman, Jr., Graduate of the Year Award Winner

Before coming to Goodwill, Bobbie Grogan said she never felt confident.

“I was out of work when I found Vocational Rehabilitation. I talked to my counselor, and he recommended Goodwill for Customer Service classes,” says Bobbie. Together, Bobbie, Counselor Jim Williams, and Meg Green, Goodwill’s Instructional Resource Coordinator, designed a course of study to get Bobbie ready to re-enter the workforce. She participated in classes on Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows as well as Customer Service training where she thrived.

As Bobbie explains, “You start out thinking that you can’t do this, you can’t get a job or support your kids, then halfway through you start thinking, ‘I can do this!’ My head swelled! I thought that Goodwill was just clothes in a store.  I didn’t realize that they would help you prepare for a job you can really do.”

Though Bobbie didn’t have employment lined up immediately after completing training at Goodwill, she was soon able to secure a position with AT&T as a BEUC (Business End User Care) Representative where she has since earned two raises. Bobbie says that everything changed in her life by coming to Goodwill. “I’m pretty confident that without Goodwill I probably wouldn’t have this job.  It takes a little training and a little knowledge, and Goodwill gave me that. I want to thank Goodwill for letting me know help is out there.”
