Our employees make our Mission possible, and we want to introduce you – our shoppers, donors and supporters to our Goodwill family and the people behind the Mission!
So, to kick-off our introductions, we’d like you to Meet Amy. She’s been with Triad Goodwill for nearly 30-years and has a tremendous amount of passion, knowledge, and expertise in all things Goodwill.
What was your first position with Triad Goodwill? How did you get here?
My first position was a part-time Sales Associate. I was looking to get back into the workforce after having a baby (6-month old) and saw a Now Hiring sign in the window. I had only worked in fast food while I was in high school, and had never even heard of Goodwill or been in the store!
What’s Your Current Position?
I’m the Retail Operations Director. I work with our team to create a safe, customer centric operation where we move goods to drive retail sales in our stores to their maximum level for the overall benefit of the organization.
Tell Me What You Do In a Typical Day.
I am constantly evaluating what’s working and not working; looking for opportunities to be more efficient and effective in our operations. Everything we do takes people so I am closely involved in the day to day of staffing our programs. Early on I realized I had a passion for teaching others what I knew and how things worked, so training became a huge part of my role. It’s a great feeling to see new team members “get the process” and understand what makes us so successful.
What’s your favorite part of your job? What’s the most challenging?
I really enjoy working with such a diverse group of people; our team members, donors, customers and those we serve. They make everyday interesting, challenging and very rewarding.
Working with hundreds and thousands of people is also challenging, keeping up with needs, requirements can be daunting but it makes every day a bit different and never boring. Working with a great group of people helps us get the results we need and face the day to day challenges.
How has Triad Goodwill helped you professionally and/or personally throughout your career?
So, I really “grew up” while working for Goodwill. All of my life events happened throughout my employment here. The company and my team members help support me throughout all of those times, some good and some not so good.
I have made many lifelong friends from current employees, previous employees and customers that I still have contact with today.
What do you like to do in your free-time or what’s something about you that may surprise someone?
In my free time I like to spend it with my family outdoors, gardening, riding bikes, swimming and taking care of our 17 animals. Since the pandemic I have started sewing, doing embroidery, learning how to digitize pictures/logos for embroidery and vinyl signage printing.
Why do you love Goodwill and why should people “join our team?
Working for Goodwill is rewarding; watching our mission in action, knowing that the work you do directly contributes to improving the lives of others makes all the difference. You can go home every day knowing you did something good for someone in your community.
