Still looking for the perfect Valentines gift? Make it Yourself!
Here are three DIY’s for all skill levels using items from our stores! Whether you’re a creative-pro or not-so-crafty, these ideas can be helpful!
Idea One: Flowers In a Vase
Okay, we know— it doesn’t take a genius to come up with this DIY, but flowers are such a small and simple gesture of your appreciation towards someone, yet somehow they are often forgotten! A nice vase from Goodwill will only cost a dollar or two, and can be decorated with ribbon, notes, etc. I decided to use fresh roses in my example, but this can also be a moment to think about using someone’s favorite flower to make it extra special!
Idea Two: Teacup Candles
The Goodwill I visited was loaded with fine china and nice dishes. I decided upon these plain white teacups that had somewhat of a heart-shaped handle. I also found a few candles for about $1 a piece. I went home, melted those candles down, and took one of the wicks to super-glue into the teacup. I then poured the hot wax into the cup and decorated the plate with a few rose petals. Not too difficult, but not too easy either.
Idea Three: Book Box
I’ll admit, this one tested my patience a little, but the outcome is totally worth it! Find a BIG hardback book. The one I used had about 900 pages. Open the cover and draw a rectangle on the first page that’s a bit smaller(maybe .5 inches all the way around) than the book. Now use that rectangle guide and cut each page along that line. It’s possible to cut out more than one page at a time, but it will still take a while before it becomes a box. Once, it’s cut as deep as you’d like, glue the pages together from the inner perimeter and outer perimeter, while keeping the cover that will be the “lid” away from the glue. I suggest using the “Modge Podge” brand glue. After the glue dries, make sure everything is together and the pages aren’t moving, then wrap the cover with a decorative wrapping paper.
