Success Story: Ben Burnette
In January 2020, Ben Burnette took a chance and walked into Triad Goodwill’s Career Center in Greensboro to learn more about the Jobs On The Outside Program. Despite a lengthy list of career and job experiences, including roofer, truck driver, dry wall installer, and Army Veteran, Ben was struggling to find employment. A fellow veteran told him that Goodwill gave good workers a second chance at life – so he showed up.
Since then, Ben has continued to show up, has grown within the organization, and continues to do so.
Upon completing the Jobs on the Outside program in February of 2020 he gained employment first in the transportation department. From there, he moved to the travel team, where he helped each store in the 5-county territory prepare for major events throughout the year, “I see someone I know at every Goodwill now,” he says with a smile. Ben is now a Production Associate and continues to forge ahead.
“No matter your situation, there are programs and resources within the company that can help anyone,” explains Ben.
When asked how Goodwill has impacted his life, Ben simply shared with a big smile,
“Since arriving at Goodwill, I have my own place, a car, a bank account, and a steady job that I enjoy – and I am engaged.”
