Triad Goodwill Success Story: Sheayel M.
“Passion is energy” is a moto that drives Sheayel forward each day at Triad Goodwill as Senior Application Specialist. Have you ever wondered how our cash registers get fixed if there’s a glitch? Or what our organization does if a credit card machine doesn’t work, or if a store loses power? Well, we call Sheayel to save the day!
In 2002, Sheayel moved from New York City to Greensboro, NC and was looking for employment. She learned that Triad Goodwill helped “put people back to work,” so she took a step forward – into the Career Center, and into a 19-year journey with the organization.
Sheayel was first introduced to Triad Goodwill’s Career Services with resume and interviewing training and then quickly enrolled into the “Job Preparedness Class,” which focused on work readiness skills including effective communication and problem solving. While that particular program is no longer available, the core of Job Preparedness is still taught daily by Triad Goodwill’s Career Navigators.
After completing the 1-week program, Sheayel learned that the organization had an opening for a Front Desk Receptionist, so she jumped in and got the job!
For those who may be reluctant to take that first step into Triad Goodwill’s Career Center, Sheayel suggests you ask yourself this simple question- “what if it changes your life for the better?”
Over the past 19 years, Sheayel moved from Front Desk Receptionist to Database Clerk, to Database Specialist II, to Senior Application Specialist. She’s currently enrolled at Guilford Technical Community College, majoring in Database Management.
