It’s almost Summer time! The official first day of Summer is on June 20th this year. With the Summer Solstice comes the longest day of the year. The changing seasons mean an increase in daylight hours, which gives us even more opportunity to showcase our personal styles! As the temperatures climb, we have the perfect excuse to spend an afternoon in the cool air conditioning and do some much needed Spring cleaning! Even if you haven’t skipped the ubiquitous early Spring cleaning session (don’t worry we won’t judge), there’s still plenty of time this season to revaluate and clean up your wardrobe!

Ashley Carter is no stranger to personal style development. Wardrobe clear outs are essential to building and maintaining the fabulous pieces in her closet. The Blogger, Stylist and Creator, @iamfabellis as she is known on Instagram, took some time to this month to share the regular practice she has developed to keep her wardrobe fresh and clean all year round!

Check out this cute Summer ready set Ashley found at Triad Goodwill after doing her Spring wardrobe clean out and donation!

    1. Depending on how large your wardrobe is, pull out items you haven’t worn in one to two years.

This step is essential because it allows you to assess your wardrobe and pull out the items you haven’t worn lately. It also allows you to refamiliarize yourself with your wardrobe because you may find pieces of clothing or accessories that you have forgotten.

    2. Ask yourself:  “Would I wear these things right now if the weather was appropriate?”

This is the key to deciding whether to keep pieces in your wardrobe. Our styles often change throughout our lives so this is a time to see if these pieces still speak to you like they once did or is it time to part with them.

    3. If the pieces you’ve pulled from your wardrobe do not fit your current style and/or you no longer want them, check them for signs of wear or holes.

If a piece no longer works for you, it’s important to check the items for signs of wear and/or holes. Just because a piece no longer works for you doesn’t mean it can’t be a great item for someone else.

    4. Donate your pieces in wearable condition to Triad Goodwill.

Donate those items that are still in good, wearable condition to Triad Goodwill. I love donating to Triad Goodwill because they use 85% of every purchase to fund Triad Goodwill’s mission, offering everyone in our community free, online, and in-person job and skills trainings through our career development centers. I also love that I can donate my items to Goodwill, park and then shop in their stores to find pieces that I do need in my wardrobe.
