Triad Goodwill is thrilled to share that they are the recent recipients of a $20,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation. To celebrate the grant, the organization held a small check presentation ceremony in the Greensboro Career Center located at 1235 S. Eugene St. in downtown Greensboro on July 21.

Michael Walker, Regional Director of External Affairs for the AT&T Foundation  presented a $20,000 check to Triad Goodwill board members, employees, and students to assist in Triad Goodwill Digital Skills and Virtual Services Program. The Digital Skills and Virtual Services Program began in 2018 and creates opportunities for community members to attend workshops and classes both virtually and in-person. The program has served over 1,300 individuals since it’s conception. The program features workshops and classes on topics such as Social Media for Business, Create with Canva I & II, Email Basics, and a weekly series dedicated to teaching the Microsoft Suite which is held every Monday, plus many more digital skills.

At the ceremony, guests heard from two students who shared how the Virtual Services  Program has improved their lives.

Lili Shacklett told her story of how the program taught her to fully utilize many different programs on the internet she had been missing out on. She also explained how gaining this knowledge truly improved her confidence while looking for jobs and in her personal life. Another student, Robin Hayes, shared a very similar experience and demonstrated how two Triad Goodwill instructors – Jessica Hill, Digital Skills Manager and Richard Vance, Quality Assurance & Outcomes Manager helped make her dream of going back into the workforce a reality. These two powerful stories demonstrated the importance of the Data Skills and Virtual Services Program.

“At AT&T, we have long believed that a successful future is built on a well-rounded education,” explained Walker. “And today that includes digital literacy. We are pleased to support the work of Triad Goodwill in helping make a difference for individuals and families throughout the region.”

Greensboro Mayor, Nancy Vaughan echoed the benefits of improving the community’s access to educational opportunities for digital skills when speaking to the crowd.

This partnership between Triad Goodwill and the AT&T Foundation is the first steppingstone in a partnership to create positive change in providing access for those seeking an education in the ever-evolving world of technology.
