My Store is a fun, personal showcase of our customers’ favorite Triad Goodwill retail stores and donation centers, and the unique reasons why they love them. Whenever we at Triad Goodwill get the chance to talk with our shoppers, their LOVE and enthusiasm shines through!
When I met with Jean Dishner at the Church St. store in Burlington, she didn’t hesitate to get the conversation started. “Jonathan, there’s someone I’d like you to meet.” While Jean’s husband of 55 years passed away over a year ago, she’s made some great friends at the Church St. store. Among them, Goodwill employees Matthew and Keona.
While Jean and I were talking Keona came up to us carrying clothes to be hung. “We love Jean,” she said. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Next up was Matthew, hard at work checking out customers. While we waited for him to finish, Jean said, “Matthew is one of the hardest working people I’ve ever met.” Matthew’s been at the Church St. store for close to 6 years, and took time out of a busy shift to snap a picture!

Jean has been coming to the Church St. location in Burlington since it opened. “I visit all the Goodwill stores in this area, but Burlington is my favorite. It’s always clean, neat, well-stocked, and the staff are so friendly!”
When asked what she looks for at Goodwill, Jean replied, “Clothes and shoes, mostly. If it wasn’t for Goodwill I wouldn’t be able to afford clothes!”
I shared my experience of taking clothes to Goodwill with my parents when I was a kid. Jean replied, “I remember in elementary school, the school would hand out brown paper bags for kids to take home and fill up with donations.”
Jean stays up-to-date with all things Goodwill through our email list, but I imagine Matthew and Keona also help.
That’s what friends are for.
