Goodwill Alterations with Chanté Gibbs
First, I went to the men’s section to search through the hats and belts. I was able to find a lot of nice accessories during my last visit at this location, but this time I couldn’t find a plain hat until I went over to the women’s section instead. The cute heart on this hat caught my eye and I really liked the “More Love” quote on it. I also loved the mesh panel on the back of the trucker hat.
Next, I looked at the jewelry section close to the front and found a beautiful necklace. The pretty gemstones and round pendants drew me to it right away. And the color scheme of it paired well with the red heart on the hat.
I felt like the hat needed some more bling, so I searched through the accessories in the boutique Willows section, which is Goodwill’s exclusive collection. I found a gold layered pearl necklace and immediately saw how great it looked with the other items I had selected.
How do I make it?
1. First, I disinfected my hat and jewelry and started breaking apart the two necklaces into individual accessories.
2. I used pliers for both necklaces and started organizing the pieces in groups based on color and size.
3. Once I finished that, I plugged in my hot glue gun to heat up and started planning where I wanted to glue down each of the pieces on the hat. Since there was already a logo on the hat, I knew I would not need to use every single piece.
4. Next, I grabbed my hot glue gun and glued down several pendants and the gold pearls on the front and sides of the trucker hat.
5. Then I grabbed the remaining pendants and the chains I had left the hooks on to put on the mesh panel at the back.
6. Finishing Touch: Lastly, I placed (and glued down) one of the chains I had left where the brim and center of the hat meets.
What was your inspiration?
Custom rhinestone and pendant hats are making a comeback! I have been seeing a lot of streetwear influencers wear these type of trucker hats on Instagram. I feel like it is a great way to be creative on a budget.
