Spring is just a few days away, and with the start of a new season comes need to do seasonal cleaning, open up the windows for some fresh air, and maybe even do a little sprucing up around the house. It’s a great time to donate items and maybe even switch up some décor in your home!
We are always on the hunt for fun and inventive ways to use thrift finds in the home. Goodwill is always the perfect place to find gently used, unique housewares that won’t break the bank. You never know what you’ll find as you comb the isles for treasures. And sometimes you find great pieces that just aren’t quite your style. Maybe the finish is dated or less than perfect, or the fabric is just doesn’t match your aesthetic. Don’t let that scare you away! We’re here to show you that with a little bit of imagination and spray paint, you can turn any thrift find into something absolutely FABULOUS!
One of our absolute favorite places to find DIY inspiration is Instagram, there are so many fun and inventive people out there. We are lucky enough to have the absolute maven of thrifting, interior design, and DIY right in our backyard! Crystal Carlisle, or @casa_carlisle as she’s known on IG is a wellspring of inspiration. The self described “Color Loving Mama” loves a good vintage piece and doesn’t shy away molding those less than perfect finds into something that perfectly matches her beautiful, colorfully decorated home.
The busy mama of three has a passion for quick, simple DIYs and she took the time to share one of her recent projects with us! This is Crystal’s take on how to dress up a mirror she found at her local Triad Goodwill!
For this DIY you will need:
- One thrifted Goodwill mirror (only $12.99)
- Wood appliqués/onlays, (found at your favorite craft store)
- Googly eyes (Yes, googly eyes)
- Gold spray paint
- E6000 glue
- Paper bag and painters tape
STEP 1:
Arrange the wood onlays on the mirror. Feel free to have a little fun and play with the arrangement to insure that you like the placement. Then glue them in place with the E6000 glue.
STEP 2:
Place & glue the googly eyes with E6000 glue.
(She spray painted the mirror before adding the eyes because she was unsure if she needed them, she did!)
STEP 3:
Cut bag to size and use painters tape to make sure mirror is completely covered. Follow directions on the can to paint.
And that’s it! Once the paint dries you can mount it on the wall and enjoy the a gorgeous new statement piece in your home! Maybe even take a moment to pause, look at your reflection, and congratulate yourself for being so creative and crafty!
