Explore What It Means and the Value of Hiring Justice-Involved Talent

GREENSBORO, NC – Hundreds of job seekers in our community are ready to add value to a business; all they need to succeed is an employer that will give them a second chance. Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina, Inc. (Triad Goodwill) is partnering with the Greensboro Chamber of CommerceNCWorks, and the Guilford County Reentry Council for the Second Chances at a Crossroad: Reentry Simulation.

This immersive event is ideal for operational leaders and HR professionals at local businesses and organizations. The event will take place on Thursday, March 7, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Guilford College at 5800 W. Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC 27410 in the Alumni Gym. Participants will learn what it means to hire justice-involved talent and understand the value and importance of hiring individuals with a criminal background.

“With the current workforce shortage, we are seeing more employers revisiting their reentry hiring policies and asking what is really relevant, and what isn’t,” explains Celina McCrea, community & business engagement manager at Triad Goodwill.

This program will put attendees in the shoes of someone who has reentered society after incarceration and will provide insight from subject matter experts in both business and criminal justice. “To walk in the shoes of one who is returning home gives invaluable insight for professionals who are tasked with helping those individuals achieve a successful reentry,” explains Sabrina Breeden, director of programs at Triad Goodwill. “By experiencing these complex obstacles and barriers that these individuals must navigate, we not only gain visibility into the individuals’ perspectives but also discover innovative ways to help these individuals succeed.”

In addition to the reentry simulation, the program will also offer opportunities to connect with new and current workforce-development programs. The cost of the event is $10 and includes a catered lunch.  Please register in advance at: https://chamber.greensboro.org/events/Details/second-chances-at-a-crossroad-reentry-simulation-1067615?sourceTypeId=Website.
