Triad Goodwill Plans for Newly Purchased Property in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – Goodwill Industries of Central North Carolina, Inc. (Triad Goodwill) recently purchased 43.76 acres of property located at 3410-3432 McConnell Road in Greensboro to facilitate the future expansion of its mission through community services and recycling operations. Relocating a portion of the organization’s operations to the McConnell Road facility will allow for significant growth of community services, training programs, and other supportive offerings at 1235 S. Eugene St. in Greensboro.

“To ensure we continue to be responsible stewards, we believe it is essential to invest in an updated infrastructure that will enable us to sustainably and efficiently serve the communities we support for the next 60+ years,” explains Chris Gorham, president and CEO of Triad Goodwill.

The site plan approved by Triad Goodwill’s Senior Leadership team and Board of Directors entails developing approximately 21 acres of property. The physical building will contain 175,780 square feet, the first floor would be 150,660 square feet and include relocation of warehousing, logistics, retail production, e-commerce operations, expanded recycling processes, and outlet store. A second-floor mezzanine will account for approximately 25,000 square feet with 10,000 dedicated to an event space. The McConnell Road location would be the operations hub known as The Sustainability Center.

The Sustainability Center will facilitate the expansion of recycling practices for materials such as electronics, glass, cardboard, plastic, metal and textiles. Triad Goodwill diverts more than 15 million pounds of material from local landfills annually and is one of the largest recyclers of materials in the area. The expanded space will provide room for more state-of-the-art recycling equipment and increase the organization’s capacity to repurpose materials that otherwise become waste.

The current location at 1235 S. Eugene Street will remain as the Home Office and Career Center for the organization, with plans for the existing location to be renovated into an Opportunity Campus. The renovation will provide additional career support services and resources for community members.

The organization is working with Samet Corporation and is currently in the architecture and design phase of the project.
