Upcycling Goodwill Finds (Benefits & More)

Hey There!

Happy Friday! Your favorite thrifter is here with a fun partnership alongside Triad Goodwill! Before getting into it, let’s talk about upcycling and it’s benefits. You‘re most likely familiar with thrifting and or recycling. During the pandemic, the concept of upcycling became increasingly popular within the world of sustainability.

The definition for upcycling is the process of reusing an object in a way that increases its original value. In other words, recycling old materials to create something new and different. Upcycling is very beneficial to the planet. One of the many ways is that it supports a circular economy. In this type of system, products are used then reused multiple times instead of being discarded after one use. Upcycling reduces the need of unethically sourcing unsustainable materials to create new products. This helps minimize landfill waste and consumption of resources. Overall, you are allowing your object to last longer by turning it into something else.

A few popular items people tend to upcycle are apparel, furniture, and home decor. In my free time, I enjoy reworking my old clothes or thrift store finds. I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Triad Goodwill, one of my favorite thrift stores. The company gave me the opportunity to shop and upcycle apparel from their stores. I had so much fun doing this project and collaboration. Check out my creations below!

    Upcycled Two Piece Set

While shopping through the racks at Goodwill, I ran across these soft light pink Alfred Dunner pants. I fell in love with the color and the soft texture. Even though the pants size was too big for me, I knew a could make it work. I ended up creating a set that consists of a skirt and drawstring halter crop top. I felt like the set needed something more so I decided to add oversized safety pins. I look forward to making more of these sets!

    Upcycled Bucket Hat

I love bucket hats and styling them. I was so happy when I found this cute black bucket hat at Goodwill. Right away I knew I wanted to do a bleach dye effect on it. I purchased the bucket hat for only $3.99! I decided to add oversized safety pins on the hat to give it a unique look.

I hope my recent projects gave you some upcycling inspiration! Follow me on Instagram to see the upcycling process.
