Hello, October.
My favorite month of the year!
October brings my all of my favorite things: Pumpkin Patches, Fall Festivals, Haunted Houses, Apple Picking, Corn Mazes, and last but certainly not least, Halloween!
At 38 it’s rare I dress up for the occasion anymore, as I don’t have any Halloween plans that cause for it. Halloween night I always watch Hocus Pocus and attempt to hand out the BEST Halloween Candy in my neighborhood.
Psst…did you know Triad Goodwill has Halloween Candy!?!
Halloween Décor
I love to decorate for Halloween, and Triad Goodwill is always a first stop shop when I want to add to my décor. Finding these matching haunted candelabra’s for $3.99 each was luck. They were the last two in the store. I added them to our living room TV stand.
Pet Costumes
Even though I don’t dress up anymore, my bonus kiddos do, and my furbabies too! My first stop is always to Triad Goodwill to see what affordable options they may have for costumes. They are the perfect store to visit especially if you’re making a DIY costume.
We found THE perfect costume for my Maltipoo, Miyagi. The model dog on the package looks exactly like him, so it was a gimmie that we had to get it. This pet costume was only $2.49 and comes in a few options: A Pumpkin, Skeleton, or Frankenstein.
Halloween Costumes Idea: Clue!
Recently our family has been playing the board game Clue every weekend. We started playing so frequently I thought it was time for the kids to watch the original 1985 movie! And once they had seen it, they started really getting into character. We all speak in different voices now and bring out fancy dinner plates of snack foods to make it feel like we too were having a sophisticated dinner party while trying to find out Whodunnit?!
That’s when we got the idea: let’s see what Triad Goodwill has to dress up as the main Clue characters for Halloween!
Miss Scarlet
Elizabeth (11) claimed Miss Scarlet’s Character right off the bat, whereas Logan (9) requested to be Professor Plum. Let’s get into what we found at Triad Goodwill’s newest location: 5835 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro.
Elizabeth and I were on the hunt for a simple red dress, and we knew once we found that, we could build accessories around her character. I think it took us all of two minutes of searching the racks to find this spaghetti strap red slip dress! It was NWT from TJ Maxx listed at $12.99, and Triad Goodwill had it for $6.99!
She paired this red and gold leopard print chain crossbody bag ($4.99) and ruby red necklace ($4.99) to make Miss Scarlet “more fancy,” she said.
Miss Scarlet’s character wasn’t complete without a faux fur coat! For only $9.99, it truly pulled her entire costume together!
A grand total of $28.85 and Miss Scarlet’s costume was complete.
Mr. Green
Professor Plum wasn’t as easy to pull off for Logan. After searching for his outfit in both the boy’s and men’s sizes, we weren’t able to find him any “plum” colors he liked, so he switched his clue character to Mr. Green.
As luck would have it, we found a perfect green blazer in the men’s section for only $9.99. We added a green tie ($1.99), a white button up shirt ($6.99), and a pair of green eyeglasses ($1.99). The eye glasses were prescription strength, so we popped out the glass, and he wore just the frames.
Here is Mr. Green’s completed look for under $22.
Mrs. White & Professor Plum
Naturally, the kids wanted Dustin and I to participate. I was elected to be Mrs. White and Dustin Professor Plum. Dustin and I already had items at home to wear for these characters, but we wanted to add a few accessories to really get into character.
Elizabeth found this dazzling black hat and fur gloves for Mrs. White – It’s always been funny that the characters in the movie wore opposite colors to their names.
Professor Plum didn’t need much, but, the kids found a real vintage stethoscope for $4.99 and wanted to add it to Plums character. A professor of Medicine they said.
Also, they added a pair of prescription eyeglasses that we popped the lenses out for Profession Plum’s costume.
Until the next thrift haul,
